Formula E: The future of racing

To say that Formula E is the electric version of Formula 1 doesn’t quite do it justice! There are 11 teams, including the likes of Nissan, Jaguar, Virgin, Audi, and Alexander’s team – BMW i Andretti Motorsport. These cars deliver 250kW of power, with 200kW available during races, and a maximum speed of 280km/h (174mph). This season marks the change to Gen2 race cars with increased battery capacity to last an entire race, ending the need for mid-race car swaps. Formula E is changing the face of racing; the introduction of "Attack Mode" (initiated by the driver) and "Fan Boost" (initiated by fans) make the sport more dynamic from both a driver and a supporter point of view. All this in 13 races on 12 city street racing circuits across the globe.

"I’m really looking forward to working with Tonik, it's a brand that shares the same values and ethos as me."

This is what Alexander Sims has to say about his partnership with us, and it's safe to say that the feeling is mutual! When it comes to what we want to achieve in regards to supporting the UK’s transition to a zero-carbon future, couldn’t be more aligned. Over the course of the season we’ll be creating all sorts of content together with Alexander to help make getting excited about low carbon tech really easy – and importantly that the implications of selecting the right technology solutions for your home, workplace, or business are well understood too. So keep your eyes peeled! You can read our original partnership announcement here.

Alexander Sims

Away from racing, Alexander has another passion – he’s a long-time advocate of renewable and clean energy; something which he is putting in to practice in his own home. Alexander has big plans for his new barn conversion in the Midlands – the teams at Tonik and The Phoenix Works will be powering his new home with green energy and installing ground source heat pumps and EV chargers. Outside of his own back yard, Alexander really does “walk the walk” when it comes to renewables; he's a trustee of Zero Carbon World – a charity committed to the decarbonisation of the UK economy.
