Ok, so we know that our latest award win was so last month already, but as we head towards the end of 2018, we can’t help but think that it pretty much sums up this year for Team Tonik. It’s been one hell of a year - we’ve gained around 50,000 members, nearly 100 new members of staff, launched some new solutions and gained a sister company! But while all that was going on, we made sure we didn’t forget who we are, our values and what we’re here to do.
So when we found out that we’d been named Best Place to Work at the Startups Awards 2018, we were ecstatic! It’s something everyone here at Tonik HQ has always quietly suspected, but it’s nice to have it officially confirmed!
The Startups Awards 2018 recognises that we’ve succeeded in making Tonik HQ a rewarding, friendly place for people to work - somewhere that feels more like a family than a business. But what’s our secret? Come in a bit closer and we’ll tell you...
We know that what we’re doing makes a real difference, and we really care about what we do.
By finding the right people with the right skills and placing them in the right roles, we have built a really strong team with the right attitude; a passion for changing the energy industry as we know it by delivering great value renewable energy and outstanding customer service. With over 90,000 members signed up - and growing by the day - we know we aren’t the only ones who feel this way.
But it’s not all about mission statements, the right attitude and doing a bake off for charity! We also provide all our Member Services Agents (the guys who you speak to when you contact Tonik) with laptops to enable home working. This supports our agents to achieve a great work life balance - because they can work from anywhere! We empower them to get more out of their day by spending less time being stuck in traffic, because time is precious to all of us. The bottom line is we trust our front-line colleagues to have great conversations and represent our business in a way that makes us proud every day.
This doesn’t just mean we’re happier when you chat to us on the phone - home working also provides a more flexible way of working for our business, because we are covered in terms of business continuity. For example, when the snow came in February and March this year, our member services team were safely at home, still able to work entirely as normal - so they were available for our members when many other businesses were struggling to answer the phone.
Our Operations Director, Simon Perkins, sums up the mood here at Tonik HQ, “We set up Tonik with an overarching principle; that we build our business based on the ideas of everyone involved. This means enabling a culture of collaboration, openness and respect for one another. To deliver great experiences for our members, first we need to create a brilliant workplace that our colleagues enjoy being part of every day. I am buzzing with pride for the workplace that our team, together, have built and continue to improve every day. Our people have created an energetic, fun and safe place to work for everyone - regardless of their background or previous experience.”
